  Laarwijk is a former small plantation. and these days inhabited by just about 30 family's. You can reach Laarwijk only by boat. The best way is to charter a so called Tent boat from the dock at Domburg. this 20 minute boat ride over the Suriname river takes you across to Laarwijk. It was a sugar plantation during the colonial period and a place in the present district Commewijne. There are some remains left from this period, such as a kettle, the sluices and the irrigation structure. Nowadays, the village is known for its delicious oranges.
